Speed test — Cloudflare edge

Runs entirely from this browser tab against speed.cloudflare.com's public endpoints — the measurement infrastructure is Cloudflare's, the network path tested is yours.

Idle. Your ISP, IP and DNS are visible to Cloudflare like any request — no data is retained.

How to test like a network engineer

  1. Decide which hop you're testingThis page measures the path from THIS device → Cloudflare. Wi-Fi problems show only if you're on Wi-Fi right now. To isolate: run it beside the router, then in the problem room, then (if possible) over Ethernet — the deltas tell you where the loss lives.
  2. One variable at a timeClose other heavy tabs/app updates on the tested device; pause the 4K TV if you can. A household test measures everyone; a diagnostic test measures one thing.
  3. Run it three times and note the middleWi-Fi especially varies shot to shot; median beats memory.
  4. Compare latency/jitter to your plan's feelGaming and calls live or die on the ms/jitter row — a fast 'download' with a jittery 40 ms is a bad evening anyway.

What each number means

MetricWhat it isRoughly good
DownloadPeak inbound bytes/s from the nearest Cloudflare edge≥ plan speed is fine; ≥100 Mbps covers 4K for the whole family's couch
UploadPeak outbound≥20 Mbps feels great on calls; upload is where cable plans often cheat you
Latency (ping)One round-trip, this device → edge<20 ms local play; <80 ms fine; >150 ms noticeable
JitterHow steady the latency is<10 ms; video calls compensate poorly above ~30
Wi-Fi numbers lower than your bill?Almost always correct behaviour, not a scam: the radio hop is shared and lossy. If Ethernet at the router delivers full plan speed, Wi-Fi (not the ISP) is the bottleneck — the planner and troubleshooting guides then own your next steps.
